Older IH I believe it is a 1960's model 404. Plate number is 4752J. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

I"m having almost identical problems except I think I know less than you did when you posted.
I have some of the same numbers on what I think is a 404 but a response to my posting tells me the number off my engine is wrong so maybe someone replaced the original.
I"m in the same boat. Just want to get this project going but can"t figure out which parts to buy. I need a battery, but what kind, 12 volt or 6 volt system? The tires I figured on my own.

I am not for sure if it is a 404 and was wondering if the serial number I found on the plate and listed before could shed some light on what I had

J Allen: Just about every IH tractor from the 60s would have used that serial number at some point. Can you describe some charistics of the tractor. How many speeds does transmission have? Any numbers off the engine? Block casting number will end in R1, R2, R3, etc. Could have C-123 or C-135. Any and all? Do the lines or bars in grill go vertical or horizontal? Is pto live or transmussion driven? Are rear wheels cast or pressed steel? Answers to some or all of these could ID tractor.

Have you looked in Farmall photo gallery? Type in various models, look at examples of each. Try 404, 504, 240, 340, etc. Posting a photo of what you have would be another option.

4 speed transmission, C-135 engine, live pto, casting numbers end in R1 on tranmission and end in R2 on clutch hosing and axle housing Transmission casting reads 375578R1. Grill lines run verticle. Dual hydraulics

Looks alot like a 404 or 504 ..... really struggling with getting this tractor idenified .... I would like to start getting to he point of restoring it, but need to find out what I have.

Thanks for your help. I will post some pics of it on the galleries "help idenify"

J Allen You agree it looks a lot like 404 or 504, so here is the difference. 404 has C-135 engine, 4 speed transmission, transmission driven pto, live hydraulics. 504 would have gas C-153, diesel D-188 engines, 5 speed transmission, Independant pto. live hydraulics. Both tractors could have 1 or 2 remote hydraulic valves plus the hitch.

The only other tractors to use the C-135 engine were 330 utility, 340 both Farmall and utility, but all had 5 speed transmissions.
