Hi, Does anyone here have the tune-up spec for a 1940 Farmall H? We especially need the valve lash adj, point gap, and plug gap. Where would I be able to get a manual for repairs on this tractor? Thanks, Brenda

Thanks Guys, The magneto has been changed out. We just can't seem to get it to run smooth. The tractor set outside for awhile and we think it got water in the engine. The lifter and rings got stuck. We pulled the plugs out, squirted oil into the holes, and then cranked it till they broke loose. The lifters were still stuck but we finally got them broken loose too. So you can see it probably needs quite a bit of help. We aren't restoring it, we're just trying to get it usable again. Due to health problems (ms)I don't think we'll be able to rebuild the engine or do any major work. We appreciate all the help you guys have given us. Thanks, again. Brenda

Would anyone know what the compression rate would be on this tractor?

Brenda, the tune up specs are not 100% accurate, the gap for the points, .013" is assuming that your tractor has the original magneto ignition. If your tractor has been changed to the more modern distributor ignition, as many of them have, then the gap for the points should be .020", the same as for the super H.

Hey Rusty!

You just triggered an old statistic from my days with GM:

New points .019-.020"; used points .013-.014"

This adjustment proceedure compensates for the dip or shallow on one point and built up or ‘tipped’ area on the other, which is of course, a normal metal transfer occurrence in used points.

Have a good one,

Allan

Brenda,

Everything you need should be over on the left side of this page under "Tune-Up Specs"

Thanks Allan, I guess if I had just looked some more I would have found it! You guys here on the forum are so helpful that I guessed it would be easier to just ask! Thanks again, Brenda
