I just acquired a Hough 30 loader backhoe that hasn't run in 2 years. It has a 6 cyl. deisal engine that isn't stuck. The previous owner said it was running rough and he just shut it off and walked away. (He had finished the work he bought it for, and didn't need it anymore) I've never worked on a diesal before. Where should I start to get this beast running and running smooth?

I would first change fuel and airfilters.
And see if it runs any better.
If it still doesn"t run good;
take out the injectors and reconenct them to the fuelline when out the engine. Then start and see if it the injectors spray evenly. If not, you should test the injector pressure (pressure when nozzle opens). Don"t know whicg engine we"re talking here but mostly 150 kg/cm (sorry, don"t now the pressure in lbs) is the right pressure.
But filters first, if these are bad, the rest won"t even matter much.
Good luck.

Thanks for the info. It's kinda what I thought, but it's nice to hear someone agree with me. I'm expecting to get the manuals this morning and hope to try it this afternoon. Wish me luck!
