Is the 4 row IH 56 planter better than the 2 row because of the extra weight? My two row never covers like it should. Is a good H enough to pull the 4 row with liquid fertilizer ?

Wayne: I doubt if the 4 row version is as heavy per row as the 2 row, certainly no heavier. Your seed covering problems could be due to wear or adjustment. Which type of openers do you have? The double disk opener is far superior to the shoe type. Those IH planters from that era would do and excellent planting job, at least the double disc opener did. Shoe or disk opener shouldn't change quality of seed covering. Double disk just worked better in crop residue or sod plowing. Does your planter have covering blades fitted just behind seed opener? Can you post a photo zero in on planting units. Even e mail it to me.
