JRB: I question whether you have a voting affair. Most tractors were engineered to certain specifications, and we know the Farmalls all performed their tasks well.

One guy argued the M would do everything the H would but not vice versa. I think maybe there are a few jobs the H may excell over the M. I know for sure the A will, on certain jobs. I farmed with 6 Farmalls and 1 Deere, the largest being a 1066 and smallest being the Super A, and by golly, you know we used them all. We never pulled a 20' disk or operated a forage harvester with the Super A, and we never mowed the lawn with 1066.

Do you really know why there are so many good old H's and M's still around? The answer is simple, the diesels that followed in the next 10 years after them, made them so inefficient, farmers parked them for the most part.

I have an M, my bro has an h. I think gashog is right about the handy and mighty thing, we were at a little steam show last weekend, they had some ground for us to plow, it was heavy clay, the H wouldnt pull a 2 furrow drag in it, My my pulled a 3 furrow in it, started to spin a couple times, My M has 54hp, So when it starts spinnin with a 3 furrow, then you know shes hard ground, The ol girl sounded good too!

I vote for the H unless you have alot of heavy tillage work....then the M is gonna eat the H up. How bout a super H?

I don't think you could lose either way...its kind of like choosing between two beautiful women, one blonde one brunette.

Tim,

I'm inclined to think somewhat along the same lines as you:

Given the choice between a H or a M, I'd have to go with the 766 every time. :>)

I own both I worked the small farm here with the H for years and now have a super M. The work gets done alot easier now and the H gets a little rest. As far as I am concerened The H has its things that it does well and the M has things it does well but The M wins this debate. JON PS lets see if the two men can agree as easy tonight on our country as we do on the M

The M gets my vote. I've had 2 H's and an M....still have the M. I've heard it said that H stands for Handy and M stands for Mighty. Sounds about right to me ;)

I have 2 H`s and 3 M`s. The M`s win hands down. H`s aren`t fun after you have driven an M.

Depends on what you are using it for, when first built, the M was a BIG tractor. My dad preferred H's because the M was too big -- he said it caused too much compaction when cultivating. On the other hand, for tillage, we loaded the H's to the gills (and had the burned valves to prove it), in that case we would have been better off with an M. If you look at the production numbers, they will tell the story, more H's sold early, more M's late. I have no preference.

I've got 3 M's an H and a 300. I vote for the 300. Handier than an M more powerful than an H. Life is never simple. My nickel Dick Davis
