W6 losing power?

The other day I began to notice that our W6 seemed down on power. It was pulling a half of a load of hay, and had the governor opened as far as it would go to keep the thing moving up a hill in road gear with no baler. It almost felt like the wagon had a flat tire or an axle with bad bearings. I checked both and neither were the case. Also, when you are adjusting the governor control lever from about 3/4 to full throttle, it will hiccup and then come back to life. I was wondering if the carb was set wrong. It never smokes any color, but you can see transparent "heat distortion" out of the muffler at all times. I set it according to the owners manual for an M with the adjustable manifold for gasoline or kerosene, even though our W6 has the high compression gas motor. It always runs at just under the line between cold and warm on the temp gauge. I don't know if this helps, but I set it on a colder (60 degree) day. When it just starts in the morning, it idles smoother than my car. After it gets warmer from work, the idle starts to get rougher, with the rain flap popping up in the air occasionally with a backfire or two. The harder it works, the more the rainflap seems to pop up. I always runs fine when it is moving, though. Or could dragging brakes cause it? After driving on the road, the right one gets hotter than the left. If someone has any ideas, they would be very appreciated. Do the settings for kerosene and gasoline tractors differ from the tractors with just gasoline? I was also wondering how fast the PTO turns on everyone else's W6. At about 3/4 throttle, the baler will toss a bale over the back of our wagon(which holds 170 bales). It even shot a bale through the back of an old wooden wagon. Our 806 and 966 will only get the bales just to the back at about PTO rpm. Are all W6's set this fast, or is the engine just overrevving that far? It hasn't had the engine rebuilt since the 60s and has the correct IH governor spring in it. It does outrev our 1940 M. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Kerosene Distallate manifold will heat the intake much more than a gasoline manifold. You might be having trouble with detonation, or the fuel getting super heated and starting to combust before the appropriate time in the cylinder.

Our W6 has the gasoline manifold on the high compression engine, which is the way it was from the factory. It is just that I used the owners manual from a Farmall M that only shows settings for tractors equipped with an engine that would run kerosene or gasoline. Since my tractor has the high compression engine and the gasoline only manifold, I was wondering if the settings should be different on the carbuerator. Thanks for your help! Does anyone know if there were any differences?

Check your spark plugs for color and carbon build up. You might want to start with a complete tune up.
