Have a customer with an M head that he says is
high compression. The area where the numbers should
be has been welded over to fix a crack (and failed) Does anyone know the cc of the combustion chamber
of either regular or a hi comp head ? This one measures 210 cc .If this is not a hi comp head , then it
is not worth removing all of the trash arc weld
and doing a good job with oxy/acet cast iron weld.

Thanks, george

Check valve length,if its 5-27/32 inch long it would be 8060 or 8574.That is regular gas head for
M or SM.If valves are shorter,low compression.If
valves are longer you have a later head.

DWV, Both ex and intake measure 5.850 to 5.860, I can see what I think is the first digit and maybe the part of the second one .

8 then maybe a 1 , the rest is under the weld,
ends with a C , typical of IH .

JON,
are these M heads complete, or are they just bare heads. What do you want for one of them. I will have to pay about 50.00 shipping for this, I live in Central Illinois, but I need an M head. had a guy tell me if I could get him a head, He would give a F20 in trade. F20 in poor shape, but I would like to have one to try to rebuild and get running. If you want to email me.
Jim

There were only three different heads used, distillate, kerosene, and the high compression gasoline head.

If the original repair was done by a reputable shop, (sounds like it wasn't) then usually the number is stamped somewhere on the outside of the head. Look it over good.

Rusty, Looks like a poor shade tree job and it's clean , nothing on the outside or any where else.
