I posted a few days ago about trying to decide to buy a C or an H. I decided to buy the C and answered why at my other post incase anybody missed it. Now I have the C I tried to look up the serial number but all I see are 5 numbers for the C and my serial number has 6 numbers in it. My serial number is FC 141389. The casting number on the transmission case is 3516687-R5. The casting number on the block is 354898. Are there any other numbers I should be looking for on the block? Anyboy have any ideas if this is a C or Super C by the serial number and block numbers? Is there a site anywhere I can look to find out what block and casting numbers on different parts of the tractor mean? Sorry for all the questions just the first tractor I have owned and am a bit excited about it even though I am 45 years old lol. I will post a couple of pics of it when I get the film developed. Thanks for any answers anybody can give me. terryj

terry: Your tractor is a Super C, the 6 diget serial number coupled with the block part number 354898 being the first C-123 engine block. That number will be followed by R1 or R2, most likely R2

Your almost right on the money. The block number is right to one point it is 354898 but has R4 at the end of the number. Thanks a lot think maybe my C just became an even better buy.

Hi Terry, Most of the Super C's had the fasthitch for lifting implements, at least on the one I had and I liked it for that reason. It would pull the 2-bottom plow with ease. Hal

I'm 45 also, and I still get excited everytime I take my 52 Super C out for a spin!

Sounds like a Super C. C"s had 5 digit serial numbers. Look for the casting numbers that look like 3-20-X. The letter represents the year; X = 1952 (going by memory...I hope that"s right). So it would be March 20, 1952. Those casting numbers are all over the tractor, and tell the date that the part was made (not necessarily what year the tractor is, but should be close).

The longer numbers that you are referring to are part numbers, I believe.

The Super C has disc brakes, and the brake/clutch pedals have a curve to them, where the C"s were straight.

I bet 3/4 of the "Super C" tractors that I looked at in ads were actually C"s with SC decals.

Good luck,
Bill

A 6 digit serial number means it is a Super C.
C serial numbers are 5 digits.
There are other clues if the serial number is not available, such as a Super C has curved pedals, a C's pedals are straight. Super C has disc brakes, C doesn't, Super C radiator is taller, hence the 1-1/2" extra height of the grill.

Your serial number indicates it is probably an early Super C. Is there a 2" gap underneath the gas tank and above the hydraulic unit? Does it have a water pump? If yes these are a couple of indications that it is a Super C. If you look at the top of the block underneath the #1 (front) spark plug there is a small, raised, flat. You will find (if you clean it really well) the engine serial number there. Hope this helps, SAm in NS

Yes there is a 2 inch gap between the gas tank and hydraulic unit. The peddals have a slight curve. Not sure if disk or drum brakes the covers are about 3 inches deep if that is of any clue. Not sure what a waterpump would look like on a C but it does have somekind of pump on the left by the generator that is run by a belt. I am going to have to really clean that little raised flat took some paint thinner to it to remove the rust but still can't see any numbers.

Think it is a Super C in reply to scotty, 09-27-2004 09:57:58
Well after all the reading and looking at pictures of C's and Super C's I think it is indeed a Super C. Going to have to get to it and pull them brake covers and see if drum or disk brakes. I can see in the pictures I have looked at that mine does have more curved pedlas and seem to be a bit different hookup going through the break cover, keeping my fingers crossed.
