I started out with a farmall 200 that was being scraped out for parts and could not stand to see it being destroyed, later bought a Farmall F12{less than a parts tractor}and restored that,I than found another F12 in someones barn and gave way to much money for it also.Ran across a Farmall H with no wheels and a locked up motor, which looked like a rust pit.Went to a auction and bought a Farmall F14 parts tractor, which is sitll dismantled, peices are painted and motor is rebuilt, and bought a 1942 Farmall B which will cost me more than I will ever get out of it.and also drug a 1926 McCormick Derring 10-20 home which is almost done, and inhearited my brothers Farmall 340,And the worst of this I live in town with less than 1/8 acre,Oh I forgot about my 1955 IH truck.
My wife really gets excited each time I get a new tractor{you know what I mean}But now Iam asking WHY

In my case it doesn't have to be a Farmall. Just any old tractor will do. I just love working on them and getting them to run. Beside that, it keeps me out of the bars, out of politics and from checking out the biker babes on the web. That makes everyone happy.

James, May I suggest a good 12 step program for your addiction?

Step 1: Admit that you are powerless over your addiction to Farmalls.

Step 2: Believe that there is a Higher power of understanding, who is also a Farmall sort of a being.

Step 3: Make a decision to allow your higher Power direct you to Farmalls and away from that green stuff. (Remember, blood is 2150 Farmall red)

Step 4: Take personally a searching and fearless inventory of all your Farmalls to make sure you have enough at any given time.

Step 5: Share your liabilities and assets with other humans, ie tell us when you found a bargain (Farmall), and when you may have the urge for a "green elephant".

Step 6: Let your Higher power handle the liabilities. This would probably be because thoughts of a JD that slipped into the mix somewhere.

Step 7: Humbly ask that your Higher power remove these liabilities (JD"s) and replace them with assets (Farmalls)

Step 8: Make a list of all the people you might have told that JD was better than Farmalls and be willing to make correction.

Step 9: Make such corrections to all those except those who may be bigger than you and may tend to tell you where to shove your Farmall.

Step 10: Continue to take inventory and if you need another Farmall, by all means go find one.

Step 11: Seek meditation with your Higher power and ask for knowledge of where to find your next Farmall, and the power and fortitude to go get it.

Step 12: Having had this awakening as a result of these steps, take this message to other wannabe Farmall owners, and practice these steps at all times.

I agree, but you know what? You could be out in some bar chasing some young honey slammin down some cold ones at least your wife knows where you are she should appreciate that and I'm sure she does. What am I saying? That first part don't sound too bad, I guess the first part could get more expensive.Enjoy your addiction, I guess we are all infected.Enjoy, you only get one chance at life!

Ohhhhh, let me tell you my side of this red tractor disease. But you can't tell any of the John Deere guys (our little secret). I have been a JD guy all my life. That was all dad had, so that was what I liked. And I have all the JD precision toys, a JD 212 lawn mower, and even a JD front license plate on the pick up. But one day at Portland, IN in the spring I saw a Farmall H. A real nice straight tractor, so I brought it home....oooops!!!! I thought I was doing a good thing so I called the wife about 3 hours away and said very proudly "I'm bringing home a tractor!!!". (DON'T EVER DO THAT!! UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO BUY BEFORE YOU WENT!!) So after a very long week with a very unhappy wife, we decided to get her to drive it....it worked!! We can't sell that one now, she loves it. This is when I caught the addiction. She thought those 300's were neat, so we got one of those, then we got a 350U for some around the house work. Then I thought that an HV would be pretty neat, so it came home, and then a 350 row crop. And still no green ones....ooops! They have all been fun, and I have my eye on many, many more to come!! (with approval of course)

Sounds to me like you are a little like Star Trek’s Mr. Spock. Part human (red blood) and part Vulcan (green blood with a miss-placed heart). I’m glad to hear that the human part is winning out, and you are submitting to your emotional side. By the way, Mr. Spock was noted to give way to his emotional side a time or two!

:-)

I think you have to be careful unless you are loaded with money because there is no real return on investment except in rare cases.

You have FARMALLITIS. Most of us on here have that disease. You buy one and fix it up and you feel good for awhile. Then the urge kicks in and you need another one. It goes on and on. There is no known cure. :)
