Been helping with the local ag mechanics class at the high school, kids are full of interest there in the class, and the teacher being a good buddy wanted me to bring one of my tractors down and explain what all I did to restore and whatnot. One kid,I really took a shining too, sent me this poem via email.Pretty neat:

The days of my youth have not been forgotten,
back in the neverending feilds of cotton.
The barn is gone, but the house is still there,
the smell of farmlife no longer fills the air.
the land we worked from dusk til dawn
is now just a neighborhoods beatiful lawns.
I miss the farm but enjoy the city,
even it can be pretty.
I found a machine,in not so much glory, Ibet it could tell me some stories.
I worked for weeks,even a year,
for the slightest memory,a voice to hear.
Dad calls from above, gives a tip of his hat,
for a job well done
On my time machine,I go back!

Big John that was a mighty nice poem.Being a former teacher alot of those kids were "golden" and only one or two in each class were "pills." The kids are like my 'fond memories' now of running the bagger on an Allis AllCrop 60.At the time in the heat, the dust and the dirt, I wished the sky would darken and it would rain, just to get a break: but I never told my Dad that as a 14 year old kid.I can still hear the governors snap on the little Allis power plant when we would hit a tough spot after supper. Those good work habits I learned from my Dad I have passed on to my son though he is not on the farm, but in first year.

Sounds like a thoughtful young person. The kind we need. Yes, it was a good thing for you to help out with that class.

I wish that my high school would have had an ag mechanics class. My school barely had an auto shop class. Instead of fixing the cars, we tore down and scrapped the cars. I always said that in the course manual it should have been called chop shop 101 instead of auto mechanics 101. Anyway, that is cool that you give up your time to do something like that.

I know what you mean. The ag/mechanics program at my school sucks. I stopped taking the classes because they were so bad.
