154/cub carb leaking gas

I rebuilt the Carb. on my 154 Cub Lo-Boy with the IH kit. I set the float height to 1 13/32" with a float drop of 3/16" just as the specs call for . I measured both with the new gasket in place. It runs good but the carb. still leaks a little gas. Should I maybe set the float/float drop to a different spec? On my old needle and seat, I lapped it in with valve grinding compound and it worked ok. I reinstalled the old needle and seat and that leaks too (a little). Maybe I should re lap it? Thanks!!

Many times, it is not the needle and seat that is causing the leakage. Take the carb apart and coat both sides of the two red gaskets sparingly with a sealer like black Permatex. They will be under the needle cage and the load nozzle.

Since I starting doing it that way I no longer have the leak problem on any of my carburetors.

John, I've owned 2 Cubs and have found that they leak every other day, always on Thursday, and whenever there's a full moon;-) One I fixed using a Kohler replacement needle and seat with a special compound on the tip. I'll have to look that number up or maybe someone smarter has it handy.
