I went through the lot of an upcoming consignment sale today and found a 7' fasthitch IH mower/small points. It looks like it has seen very little use. There's no belt shield which probably had the number on it but it is stamped 12/13/61 on the left side. Also it has two chains on the front that it's setting on so I can't see what the ends are like. What tractor would that have been made for? What are the chains for?, and would it fit a super c although I have know use for it. I just like dragging home fast hitch stuff. Thanks, Jim

The setup for a Super C or 200 series fast hitch will be somewhat different for 300's and up. You can see pictures of my #100 mower hitched to my 350 by searching for 'balance mower' under the Implement Photos link on the left.

If it has two chains it sounds like a mower for a 230, different than the one for super C or 200. The right chain keeps from lowering to much, and the left one raises the sicle bar they hook just under the platform on each side. The left has a peg on the end it goes in a tube , the right has a clevis set up. WEhen you raise the fast hitch it raises the bar, by tighting up the left chain. The 330,350, and 450 could had had mowers with same set up I don"t know.

I have a similar mower, judging from your description. The chain goes to the left side "Touch Control" lever, and controls the height off the ground for the mower itself. I have mine on a Super C, I use it a lot and really like it. Mine does not have any guards on it and I think it never did - it dates from a time when mfg's were not required to design for idiots. Needless to say be sure this thing is disengaged before getting on or off the tractor.

Check the oil in the bearing housing for the upper and lower pullies, and it has about 12 grease zerks that I would suggest giving a shot of grease before using it. The wooden shaft that goes between the lower crank pully and the mower blade itself is (or at least was till recently) available at IH dealers.

Look around and try to find the front end of the short driveshaft that goes to the PTO. On mine it was missing but it was not hard to get one fabbed up.

Mark

Mark, I know which mower you,re talking about. This is newer and the pto enclosed in tube type shield. The belt runs horizontal and it has a hitch and a pto shaft on the rear of the pulley for a hay conditioner I guess. It's stamped 12/13/61 and I was wondering if a small 2 pt. tractor from about 1961 had those touch control arms for the chains. Jim

it sounds like my ih 100 balanced head mower. the belt runs horizontal, has a pto shaft coming off the back, no pitman stick, just a gearbox that runs the cutbar. in 1961, the 240 was current model but the 240 had no touch control arms that i know of. probably made for a super c or 200.

Well some have the Touch Control system from the factory, and some didn"t, I think it was an option. If you have a tractor like a A, C or Super A, or C, with Quick Hitch, and the Touch Control, this type of mower would work well. I don"t know how well it would work without the Touch Control - If you want to do some fabricating, almost anything is possible.

I would not personally recommend this type of mower for somebody without Touch Control. When I am using mine I am moving the TC lever all the time to compensate for uneven ground and thick grass.

My mower is different from the one you are looking at, but I will say that I like mine, it is period for the tractor, and it"s a lot more nimble than a bush-hog
