Hi Guys, Can any one tell me how to get the cam gear off an H. The motor is stuck and I cant get to the bolts through the cam gear. I cant get the crank out untill I get the cam gear off. I tryed heating it no aval. About two weeks ago I ruined one with prybars behind it I dont want to ruin another. Also I have 6 different pullers but cant get them behind the gear and they wont stay in the holes in the gear I guess becuase its to rounded in the holes. Any Ideas. JON

The trick I used a couple of weeks ago in exactly the same situation on my H was to gently drive a couple of wedges under the outside of the gear. Then use a brass drift on the end of the shaft and drive it to the rear (gently). I should move a little. Then keep tightining the wedges up, and driving the cam to the rear. Pretty soon you can get the puller behind the gear. By this time it came off really easy. Hope this helps...ken

I took one off an M this week using a 3 jaw puller with the jaws turned to the outside, the arms wanted to pull in, so I used a bolt in between to fill the gap and it came right off, (assuming the H is the same way)its a little tricky to set up but works good

Hi Jon, Is the gear thick enough to drill and tap threads? If is then you could use your gear puller and keep using that torch to apply heat.
Good luck, Hal

Hi Jon, I like using a cutting torch for heating.
You can put the heat where it is needed better.
Be careful and do not squeeze the trigger. I've
never found anything better for removing seized
metal on shafts or rusted nuts. Use cutting oil on those drill bits when trying to drill that timing gear, they will cut better and will keep
the drill bit cool. Hal

Can you get a "chain breaker" in there, they are used in motorcycle apps.
