Question:

I have a 1943 H Farmall that has been in the family since that time. In 1962 when I was in my early teens, my father had the orginal "Delux seat" (A square seat with two hidden trays under the upolstered seat) removed for a conventional seat. As I'm now restoring the tractor for a second time in 14 years, I'm looking for this orginal seat. I have run into very few people that actually remember that type of seat.

I'm in hopes that someone out there is firmilular with this seat type and can direct me to where I can find this seat.

Thanks,

GH

Does the seat you are referring to look like this? I have this one on a 1940 H I am parting out. Don't think it is original, but maybe what your dad had. Email me if you are interested and we will talk.

I have an H with a seat that looks exactly like this one only it still has the metal trays underneath. It has some green paint on it so I was thinking it was a JD seat that someone put on it. Dont know if this is right or not.

I can get you some pics, but it will probably be another week. The H is at my grandparents and this weekend I will be out of town. Will try to get them to you this next weekend though.

Thanks Ray!

If you have pictures of this seat I would like to see your H seat.

I did respond to Brian, as this is exactly the seat that I remember. As I told Brian, it would still be intresting to know the history of this seat, wven if was not a IH seat!

If you would like, you could e-mail me at leadfootexpressm@yahoo.com.

Thanks for responding!

GH

Brian,

This is excatly the seat I was referring to!

I have the trays for it, so yes, you can cotact me and we can talk.

I did talk to an IH enthusitist here in MI. and he stated this was probably not a IH opitional seat. I don"t care, it"s the seat that came on the tractor new in 1943. It could have been a seat line the dealer was selling at that time my Grandfather & Dad purchased the tractor.

You can contact me by e-mailing me at leadfootexpressm@yahoo.com, then we can exchane phone numbers or simply talk by e-mail

Thanks for responding.

I"m also going to read the other responses also as I would like to know the history of the seat.

The deluxe seat had a spring and shock absorber, no tool box -- you remember an aftermarket seat of some kind. I've never heard of the one you describe. It's not IH.

Thanks CKNS for responding.

As I stated in an earlier e-mail, I was told the same thing you stated in your response.

However, I know that this seat came on the tractor, and as I also stated, this could have been a optional seat IH dealers carried. It does seem to me that if Brian has this seat and I had one here in MI, IH dealers may have carried this seat line at thier dealership as an option.

I wold like to ask my father or Grandfather, but currently they are most likely looking down from above wondering why I'm so intrested in this endevor!

Thanks again for your input.

GH

Things happen -- my dad had a 1947 H that I am positive came with a Monroe seat -- this one looks like the IH version, except that it has a large shock behind the spring instead of a small one in front of the spring. I always thought this was an original IH seat, that was replaced by the one with the small shock, until someone told me different. The parts book proved that he was right. So it could have been a dealer conversion.

CKNS,

Thank-you CKNS, and thanks everyone that responded to my orginal "Delux Seat" question.

I have had some great feedback from what appears to be a very knowledgeable pool out there!

I'm also glad I found the fourm. One can obtain a lot of information from this form.

Thanks again everyone!

GH
