I have recently inherited my father's F12. When I unloaded it from our lowboy it rolled off ok. (I had set the brakes upon orginally loading it)However, when I tried to move it, the left rear tire locked up. The right rear tire spins free. It seems the problem it not with the brake, but the gear assembly-- either the transmission or rear end. The left tire (axle) has a sprocket which evidently was used for a chain drive-- any thoughts on why the left tire is locked up???

i'm with pg, are you sure the brakes aren't stuck? when i brought my F-14 home one of the brakes was locked up (strangely enough, it was also the left one). i have to pull the brake drum off before i could get it to move.

Thanks-- I appreciate all the comments. I will pull the brake cover first and then the transmission cover-- you don't think it could be something in the way I shifted gears-- what's odd is that it rolled off the trailer fine. It wasn't until I rolled it the left wheel locked up--

how about the infamous "ball bearing stuck in the gears" problem? wasn't there an issue with the old Farmalls where if a bearing blew up inside the tranny one of the balls could get wedged between the big gears and the tranny housing? i don't remember if the F-12/14 had this problem, or it was the F-20/30/Regular. i know it has been discussed on this forum, so you may be able to search somehow to find the threads, or post a new message asking about it.

shifting gears, seems unlikely. must be something obvious.

are you sure its not the brakes or stuck in gear? otherwise i would pull off the transmission cover and see what is stuck before you chip a gear. pg
