Yes my dad just bought a 1953 international 300 utility harvester. he bought it for 2000. it has the 3 point hook up in the back and has hydrolics. Where would I be able to find out info about this tractor. Like what fluids it takes? Engine specs, trany specs? and does anyone think that that is a good price?

Actually, the 300U was wildly popular (look at the number of s/n's they went through in just two model years!).

Their market was a mixed one, both agricultural and construction. Probably a lot of them got really pounded to death on construction sites. Of the remainder, they seem to be hard at work, still earning their 'keep.' So maybe they don't get talked about so much, but it seems like they get mentioned out of all proportion to their being built for only 18 months!

I've been running one for a couple of months now, and honestly don't see how we got along without it.

It's a Farmall H with all the things you might wish for as mods...but stock. Live hydraulics, an extra remote, live PTO, wide front, extra power, a bit more comfortable adjustable seat, etc. It retains most of the 'H' qualities of being dirt-simple, sensible controls, and tough as nails.

With the 300U, International put it's finger rather firmly in Henry Ford's eye, and sent a clear message that it was not going to let the market for the utility tractor go quite so easily as Ford had hoped...

International 300 Utilities were built only in 1955 and 56, do as Hugh says and get a manual.

I found an operators manual on e bay for $15.00. Lots of info in it. Well worth the money. TS sells the shop manual by I&T. You should get both, they answered all my questions. Not a lot of info for the 300U on the net. I guess its not as popular as the Farmalls.

Rickie: To start with a 300 would be either a 54, 55 or 56 as that was the only years built. You need a manual for all those questions. 300 really has only 3 separate oils; crank case any good motor oil, hydraulics and IPTO hytran only and transmission-rear end which is gear oil 90W. Steering box will take the gear oil as well.

On gear boxes IH used a system of fill to level plugs, these probably had labels when tractor was new. This is one reason why manual important, just too much chance for mistake on describing which plug over the internet.

Serial number tag on the 300U is on the right side, between the oil filter and the gas strainer.

If you can't find or read the tag, IH used a date code on major parts, which looks like mm*dd*A. For this tractor, A = 1955, B = 1956.

Good-quality manuals are readily available from Binder Books (.com); at a minimum I'd recommend that you get an Operators Manual.

Rickie: Locate the serial number, should be metal tag about 2.5 by 4.5 inches on clutch housing, left side, if my memory serves me correctly. When you have the number return to this page, on the left under Reasearch & Info, click on serial numbers, then in your case International the the model number. It will display the beginning serial number for each years production of 300 tractors.
