When I rebuild our H carb, what should I soak it in to loosen some of the gunk up?

Gunk makes a lot of products. I think they make a bio-degradeable carb soaker (gallon can with parts basket). It's not so good. Gunk de-greaser,
another Gunk product, is no good for carbs internal. It just doesn't strip varnish. I would recommend a carb soaker with methylene chloride (paint stripper) as an ingredient. Berrymans Chem Dip is a descent product in 1 gallon can with parts basket. It stinks terrible, it's yellow colored and has methylene chloride. It burns your skin and may cause cancer but it works. Most guys here can't get a carb clean and this is why, they don't use the right stuff. You can soak for weeks in Mr Clean or Gunk de-greaser or gasoline or diesel or whatever but it may not work if those small drillings are varnished shut.

Hi Dan, If you use any carburetor gunk or parts cleaner, do not soak the float. Hal

I always soak the float -- what can happen to it?

The carburetor cleaner we used would eat any
soldered joints. Hal

I'll keep that in mind, but the stuff I use is made for carbs, as compared to the usual parts cleaner, three soldered floats so far and no problem.

I recommend "Gunk" which is the brand name of a good carbuator cleaner. My nickel Dick Davis

Dan:
I second what Dick has told you, Gunk is a very very good product. Make sure that after soaking for a week or so that you blow all the jets etc..out with your air compressor.

Make sure you remove all the rubber seals and "O" rings. This carb. stuff might damage them. Good Luck
