I have a fresh rebuild on my engine and am running 20 weight oil with a new Napa oil filter. When I start it, it is maxed out at 60psi. But once warm will drop to about 30psi at mid throtle and about 10psi at lowest idle. Does this sound right to you? I have a IH oil guage but it is different then the original so it is hard to compare with the manual.

Thanks Bob

What did you do to the oil pump? Is it a rebuilt or new? Did you verify the rod and mains bearing clearances at assembly? You should have good steady oil pressure with that re-build. My opinion is it should not fade away as it appears to be doing. Did they hot tank the block? The caustic hot tank solution can cause problems with some types of cam bearings. As an example, a C113 engine I built uses the old style gage. It carries not quite 3/4 gage cold and drops to just above 1/2 gage hot on 10W-30 oil.

What did I rebuild,

Sleves, pistons, rings, valves, guides, re-ground crank, Cam shaft bearings were not replaced, I talked to an old IH guy and he told me the cam bearing would be ok? I could not detect play in them. The original oil pressure guage had no numbers, so it is hard to tell what the pressure should be. The one I have is not original, perhaps I should try to get the original and see what it says?

First of all you should be useing stright 30 weight oil the 20 weight is for colder weather like when your tractor is setting inside and you are setting next to the stove. And when you rebuilt it did you install new cam bearings ???? and did you check all the clearances with plastia gauge?? and just how good is the oil pump. If your clearances are on the loose side then the oil pressure will go down as it warms up.

I would try some straight 30 or 15/40 What do you mean by fresh motor, Cam bearings, crank and rod bearings, You are not that far off all of mine except the SM carry about that pressure. The SM carryies about 40 when hot. JON
