580 case diesel backhoe, starts fine. runs great
for about 20 minutes, then stalls. No warning, its
just as if the key was turned off.
Then it won"t start until it cools off. When you try to re-start there is nothing,
turn the key and nothing happens, starter won"t
even engage.
Can any one HELP??
thanks

Problem fixed. Starter had a problem and
was shorting out.
Had it rebuilt , also had hydraulic valve body
fixed so it stayed in neutral position.
Starts right up and keeps running now.

thanks

I do not see an answer as to what you found with your backhoe. Hal

Hi, Did you find the problem with your 580? There's a case dealer near me and they sell those 580's. I was tempted to call them to see if they
had run into this problem that you're having.
I think it's an electrical problem. Hal
Keep me posted as to what you find.

Hi, I think you should remove the battery ground cable and clean it with a wire brush or some emery cloth until it shines. This means you unbolt the ground cable from the tractor and clean the metal surface under the ground strap.
Also clean the clean ground strap lug that bolts to the backhoe. Clean the negative battery terminal, while you have the ground strap disconnected clean the positive terminal on the battery and the positive battery lug. You should
remove the battery cable at the starter solenoid
and clean it too. Reinstall positive battery cables, make sure they're tight and then install
your ground cable to the backhoe and then to the battery. Corrosion is bad on battery cables at times. Hope this helps, Hal

Not exactly, think its the starter solenoid.
Have a freind of a friend who is a diesel
mechanic coming to look at it this Sat.

Thanks

Hi, The starter solenoid shouldn't make the diesel engine quit running unless something electrical is shutting it down. Diesel's use compression ignition and will run as long as they get fuel. What is used for the engine shutdown?
Do you have lights and are they working when you have that no crank condition? Let me know if you find the problem. Hal

Try shorting across the starter solenoid to see if it will crank when this no start happens. If it cranks, your starter switch may be grounding
out killing the engine. Be careful when doing this. Is this switch used for shutting down the
engine too? Hal

Better check all battery connections, sounds like a loose one.
Bad ground?
