I had a problem with the rotor not turning. I dissassembled the whole distributor network and the distributor gear and the drive gear both looked good so I reassembled it but it just kept jumping time. So I took it down again and turned it by hand only to find it was slipping. I thought the gears were wore out so I ordered a new drive gear. Upon further inspection I discovered the pin that holds the distributor gear on was sheared off, a .50 part. It now runs fine. Hope this helps anyone else with similar problems.

I had that same thing happen to me once on a Ford car, until now I've not heard of it happening to any one else. I do remember it was a long walk back home.

Hi Rusty, Ford had a lot of problems with the hex shaft that they used to drive the distibutor. A lot of people were left sitting.

Worse than that sometimes the hex also drove the oil pump and it was known to round off.

Hi MO Boy, Some of those hex drives fell into
the oil pan too. One of our supervisor's had
a hex shaft to shear off on a Ford Station wagon
and he carried about 6 riders and it happened when
he started the vehicle to go home. Sure created a mess. He lived about 30 miles away.

One of my co-worker's bought a new Ford pickup and had it a few months and a rod started knocking. Called the dealer and they replaced the rod bearing. About 4 months later
it started knocking again and we pulled the pan
and looked at the crankshaft surface and couldn't
find an oil passage hole in the crankshaft. It was hard to convince the service manager until he
saw the problem himself. Ford installed a new short block and never had any more problems. Hal
