Carb Problems on a Farmall C

I’m working on a Farmall C as a favor to someone so I know almost nothing about the tractor. The gas pours out of the air intake side of the carb, so I know at least the float is stuck open. Are there different types of carbs for this tractor and if so how do I tell which one I have? If I call my local NAPA auto-parts store or Tractor Supply Store will they be able to supply a rebuild kit?

Check the float to make sure it isn,t full of gas. Sometimes they get a hole in them and will cause lots of problems.

I'll check, but I don't think there has been gas in the tractor for more then a year.

My I&T manual lists 3 carburators for the C - gas.

Carter UT733S or SA
Marvel Schebler TSX-319
Zenith 161X7-10386

There should be an ID tag on the carburator. You will need the tag numbers. No tag - take the carburator to the NAPA dealer or local auto parts store.

I've got the Zenith carb, does it sound like it needs a full rebuild or just cleaing out the float valve?

It's a very simple carburator. Suggest that if you are going to take the carburator apart to work on the float - go ahead and clean (dip) the entire carburator and do a rebuild.

got the bucket (looks like a gallon paint can) of carb cleaner with the wire basket in it for $15 and Murry's Auto Parts. Whould I soak it overnight or how long? Just throw the whole thing in or take it apart first?

Well guess what the can has directions on it. No rubber or plastic and 15-30 minutes.
