I looked at a 574 at at a MF dealer. The tractor had an engine rebuild a couple of years ago and runs great. I noticed the three point hitch will not raise at idle. My friend has a 574 with a new hydraulic pump and says his won't raise at idle, either. Is this characteristic of the 574, or is the system weak? Thanks for your comments
Gene

Hi the hydrolic system have a priority valve for the steering that allow 3 gpm to the steering first, than the rest to the hitch. If the engine run to idle, the flow is to low to feed the hitch. Bernard le mécano Québec Canada

get your friend to change his filter and see if there may be filings in it sounds to me like the multi control valve is sticky. does power steering work at idle? it should. the brakes are in the rear end in the oil and when the facing is worn off its steel to cast . great brakes but hard on the hydraulics . just simply a dirty filter can do this because the bypass screen lets big enough pieces of dirt though to stick the mcv.

Thanks for the reply and information. Yes, the power steering works at idle. He just had the pump replaced about a year ago. Where is the SCV? Is it external or in the transmission housing?

the screen comes out with the filter the mcv is next . another thought is have him make sure the o ring was changed with the filter (seals the cap) if the square o ring is twisted in the housing it will suck air and cavitate the pump and he will have to be reved up to suck oil . had a tractor in with those symtoms owner had changed filter couple times but didnt do the oring had us put a new pump in and when we got the mcv housing out you could see the oring all twisted up not sealing
