a buddy at work bought an International utility tractor.Its a 6cyl. diesel it dont have the side panels so he dont know what model it is.the serial number is 6826 s-x-y-ff.it looks like it is a 1965 606 or 2606.Does anyone know what the letters stand for? Thanks

roscoe: By my recollection IH only ever built 3 - 6 cylinder diesel utilities plus the Industrial counterparts. They would be the 460, 606 and 656. 460 would be fast hitch, the other two likely 3 point. 656 would have gear shift lever and TA lever on either side of dash, while the other two would have shift lever going into top of gear box. Follow that through and it should tell you.

Could possibly have been 666 and 686, but I've never seen one.

Hugh If you have seen a FARMALL 656 then you have seen a 666 or 686 just a different engine is about all.

RAS: I can see I didn't make myself very clear. I have seen all these in Farmall versions. Have seen a few 656 Utility but have never seen a 666 or 686 Utility. You should know this, did they make them in the Utility version.
