i have a water gauge it was not working so i took it off and put it in a pot of boilling water it only went up to run. what is the problem with my gauge.

I had this same problem once, found out my thermostat was stuck open. That's what I would check first.

Sounds like the thermostat is stuck open or missing. That gauge will barely move off the peg in that situation.

nothing is wrong with your gauge. Water boils at 212° at sea level. kerosene tractors were designed to run close to the boiling point. Antifreese boils at a much hotter temp.

Like NC says, there is nothing wrong. If your tractor has a pressurized system, the water will boil at a higher actual temperature that 212 degrees (probably in the 220 degree range). This is the reason why you should make sure that the temperature gauge you use on your tractor is matched to the cooling system (pressurized or non-pressurized).
