I have 7 acres and some rolling hills.at present I have a ford 8n which is to light and not powerfull enough for me.I have a chance to buy a wd-45 with live hydraulics.I am a farmall man but which tractor in the farmall series would work also?I plan on plowing, moving dirt and rocks, snow removal and all around farm work,I was thinking H or M.Any hints or is the allis a better tractor?

I grew up around WD's and WD45's but now have all Farmall's. I will give you an honest opinion, and hope that my Dad doesn't read it (he is orange through and throgh). A WD45 is a much more useful tractor that a Farmall M. Same HP and much better fuel economy. Will plow much better with a well set up Snap Coupler plow. It also has live hyd and pto. The M will pull a little more due to the 38" tires and more weight.

SM is a little closer but still no live pto. SM has even worse feul economy.

In reality the WD45 compares to the 400 and 450 in age and utility. The 450 with a fast hitch in my opinion is better than a WD45. Same utility, but bigger.

If I had to choose between a WD45 and an M in the same shape for the same money, strictly for using the tractor for what you listed above, I would go with the WD45. Same comparison with 300-450, I would probably go with the Farmall. But mainly becuase I like the red ones. :0

Actually I've been thinking about picking up an Allis to supplement my Super M. I really just need something else to pull a bushhog to keep the grass down while my trees grow and was thinking those orange tractors are cooler than the green ones...

Of course I could just fix my grey farmall..... Its been deteriorating for 40 years. I've only been working on it for 3 so theres no rush.

C'mon, this is the Farmall board, right? AC makes a great little tractor, but can anything really beat the power of red? Not to mention that people just look better sitting on a big red tractor. If you can't do it with a Farmall/International, you don't need to be doing it. LOL

The wd-45 is about 40 HP. You can add a 3pt hitch much cheaper that buying one for an H or M. (half the cost)

It also has a live pto or live hydraulics??? I can"t remember which one. It"s size is right inbetween the H and M... Closer to the Super H, and 300 series though. Personally, I would get a Super M (stage II, 50-55 Hp, live hyd, and disk brakes), with a loader and powersteering, wide front, and add a saginaw 3pt hitch...but that"s just my opinion. An H or M or the WD-45 will work fine.

A WD45 is a pretty nice utility tractor. Live power, Live hydraulics. Nice.As Nebrasca Cowman said, a M will outpull the WD, unless the WD is pulling a Snap Coupler plow, and the traction booster is set prperly. Then a WD45 can really plow. The traction booster works like the draft control on your N, when the WD starts to slip, it picks up the plow a little, giving it more traction. I love my Farmalls, but I'd take the WD45 over the H or M. Now if you compare to the Super series it gets more difficult to pick.

By the way, a WD45 can be retrofitted with a nice 3-point setup. Take Care
Steve

you will miss the Ford for 3 point work but the Snap-Coupler on the Allis can work ok too. Of course the H or M have neither but the M will outpull the Allis.
