i was wondering if anybody out there has ever heard of using a diesel 656 for a puller. i have not seen it done but could not think of any reasons why not. the reason i ask is that i have a 1968 wide front model that i would like to use.

Red: I farmed with both 656D and a 560D. I had both these tractors equiped almost identical as it applies to weight added, tires, etc. On ordinary everyday farm work the 560 would out pull the 656 every time.

remember the dealer here sold a boat load of 656's and took quite a few 560's in on trade. You were right Hugh as the guys were complaining about the 656's not having the pull the 560's did. The dealers shop forman said well when the 560's were new they were the big boy and several of them had the pumps opend up and now there are 3 larger tractors the 7,8 and 1206. A couple guys as I remember traded theirs back for 706's but the 806's were less than $1000 more than a 706 and a whole lot more tractor

hagan: Rather interesting as I watched my dad buy a 300 when it should have been a 400. I had the heat on him to buy and Oliver Super 77 diesel. We bought the 560D after the 06 tractors were allready out and within a year we had 560 turning out 90 hp. I must say the old 560 took more abuse on our farm than any other tractor. By abuse I mean used and pushed far beyond its rated horsepower. I remember when I bought 1066, was looking at a 766, maybe 966. There was less than $3,000. between 766 and 1066, with 9 in the middle. I decided, no point in doing it wrong again.

Red never a 656 but did see 666 with the D312 it had so much power it was just like a jack rabbit junp jump jump the guy never hardly moved the skid. Don"t know if you can get it light enough to put the weight in the right place.
