Hi All,

Barnstormer's post got me to thinking.

I never use the belly hydraulics on my H. Would this pump have enough gumption to run a power steering motor if I tied the lever back and just routed the output up to a steering hydraulic motor?

Allan

Allan - That could work if belly pump pressure is sufficient for the steering motor you choose. However the PS will quit whenever the clutch is depressed - would make close quarter maneuvering a real PITA!

Hi Bob,

Yeah, I had a little brain fade on that one. Thought about it just after I hit the "send" key. :>)

Okay, back to square one. I think maybe NE Cowman has the right idea and just get a hydraulic pump off a Super H.

Dunno,

Allan

Hey Allan - Another possiblity is a belt-drive pump. I've seen some pretty neat installations (Charlynn, Behlen and home made) that mount the PS pump on the governor housing. Probably easier and cheaper than installing a Super H live pump and reservoir.

Note: In addition to the pump, I believe you need to also replace the engine front plate with one from an SH in order to mount an SH live pump to an H. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong) ...Bob M

Hey Bob!

Just had an idea!

Maybe it's time to park the old H out under the trees where I found it!! LOL

Jeez Allan - don't even CONSIDER that idea (unless maybe the tree you leave it under is in my side yard)!!

Incidentally an H in good shape is relatively easy to steer. FWIW my daughters (110 lb or so each) actually prefer operating my manual-steered SH to the SM with power steering. ...Bob M

I just did an archives search. I may re-think my plan to remove the power steering unit to restore my H (thread below). I'll get more information and check these various suppliers for repair parts, mostly seals and gaskets. Some "creative" metal work may make the hood a little less ugly.

I had an M setting under a Farmhand F-10 loader that steered easier then my 300. No power steering on either. But 300 needed alot of work.
