How do I identify my engine size, Farmall 706?

I don't see any engine size stamped on my 1966 706, Serial 38121 S-Y. Where would the stamp be, if there is one. If there isnt one, what is the best way to verify the engine size I have. I know (from reading earlier posts that early models with the C-263 gas engine put out 73 horsepower, and the very late models (about November '66 though '67) with the C-291 gas put out 76 horsepower. I'm curious though how I can tell what one I have. Thanks, Matt

Matt, from your serial number, you should have a C-291. At serial number 37237, they replaced the C-263 and the D-282 with the C-291 and D-310. At this time, horsepower went from 73 to 76. To verify that you have the C-291, look for a small flat area just to the rear of the oil filter base. There you will find your engine model and serial numbers. This area is usually very dirty, and the stampings are very small and light, so it will take some cleaning.

Thanks for your replies. While I couldn"t find the numbers stamped on the engine block, I was able to locate a small flat area just to the rear of the oil filter base (as K.B. pointed out) and it looks like it is a C-291. Thanks for all your help everyone!

At Serial number 37236 and up were 310 diesels and as far as know it the same serial number when they changed the gasses.

Matt the size should be on the right side of the block. If it came with the c291 the rails would be longer and you will have some space between engine and radiator if it came with the c263 or the early 706's there is not much space between engine and radiator.
