Does anyone have a schematic for the hydraulic control valves/resevoir for a Farmall 300? My 300 leaks from several locations in and around the controls. Do the illustrations show where and what kind of gaskets are used? I don't suppose there is an overhaul kit for the valves? What has been your experience with working on this portion of the tractor? Should I just put the tin back on and live with it? Appreciate any help. Dick Davis

Dick, I have a service manual that is for a 400 and it is just a few pages long. I'll make a copy and send it to you if you want it. The manual explains the operation very well and has service procedures for the system. The Hy-tran in the hydraulic is completely seperate from the transmission.

Bob, if the service manual section would help me on a blind/dumb/forgetful person teardown of the lift control equipment, I would appreciate your sending it on. Be happy to pay for your expenses. Do you still have my address? Thanks Bob.

Yes, correct 51534 zip. No rush on the info. I can't start on the 300 until I get my main M's hydraulics functional again. Got wheat to plant. Thanks Bob.

Dick: It's been quite a few years, but I have had both 300 and 560 valve banks out. If my memory servces me correctly there are O rings only in between each valve, the end cap has a gasket. Those bolts you see at end cap go through all valves. There are also just O rings on manifolds going to outlets. Other than it is a miserable spot to work in, the fix is relatively easy.

Rats! Hugh, I was looking for someone to tell me to just let it leak!

Seriously thanks. Does the resevoir open to the transmission at all? I hope the resevoir is like a bucket and just bolts to deck and the valves bolt above that? Do you remember if that whole cast iron section ran very hot? Looks like the paint has burned off some of those components. Any additional info from folks who have been there is appreciated. Dick: The problem with not fixing a leak is, some YT contributors do come visiting. They are very sharp critics.

On the heat item, yes I do remember 300 hydraulic system running quite hot, espacially on front end loader work. Not hot enough to remove paint, but you didn't keep your hands on it long. I guess you have the answer, system is completely separate from transmission.
