Hello, My father and I just purchased our first Farmall, a '50 M. I don't have much of a tractor background, but according to dad this tractor was a good deal. It has the "tricycle" configuration with 2 tires up front, electric start, electric headlights, 3 gauges (i forget which ones), soft seat with a shock absorber and a large conical spring, rear PTO with the metal flap, sliding drawbar hitch(?), fenders, wheel weights, side PTO with a pulley, and hydraulic pump. It is a semi-basket case (gas tank leak, p/o removed tank, refurbished it, and then died...tractor has set for 7 years). Right now, the generator, side PTO pulley, gas tank, hood, exhaust, and hand crank are off the tractor but are there and came with it. Engine turns over, there was a rag shoved in the exh manifold. Tires are old but no cracks, slightly worn, hold air fine. All the sheetmetal is in very nice shape. We looked and can't even find any dings. There are small patches of surface rust and the decals have kinda worn off. The screen behind the grille is perfect.

Offhand, how much do you think this tractor is worth? Just hoping we didn't take too much of a beating for it.
As an aside, we bought it from the wife of the original owner, who bought it brand new in '50. She also has a '46 H with pretty much the same options as the M, but no hydraulic pump.
thanks

Ok then, I don"t think we did too bad. We paid $900 for it. Here is a pic, but it really does look worse than it is. Has been sitting here in this barn for 7 years, at least it wasn"t outside. Thanks for the responses

You didn't get burned at $900. I would have not paid over $750. You have lots of surprises ahead of you. Good luck and post with questions!

Haven't seen one of these posts in a good long while! My response to you would be..."Why do you care?" After all, you own it now. The M is a fine tractor and once it is all together will provide you with years of reliable enjoyment. Whatever you use it for, it will earn it's keep.
If you got it for a steal, will that make you happier? Probably not. If you got taken to the cleaners? Definitely not! Put it back together and have a bunch of fun with your dad! When he is gone this tractor will be priceless to you. It's not about the money.

You didn't say what you paid but nice ones are hard to find and getting more valuable every day. Truth is if you did not pay at least $500 you should go back and give the poor widow more money.

According to your discription, I would say that your tractor is worth $400 - $600. I've seen M's in good running condition sell at tractor auctions for $1200 - $1600. But it really all boils down to how much you want the tractor, whether it's important to you.
