If that is all of your number, it would be a 1940 A. If it is a super A, then you are missing a number. Does your tractor have hydrauulics? Don't get discouraged by listening to some of the people that respond to these discussions. Some of them are rude and don't need to voice their opinions, as you can see from a response to your question.

01--Rude? I don't think so. Perhaps I should have told him where to find the info, and not used the 1st sentence -- or better, not respond at all since I knew someone would look it up anyway. There is a whole list of stuff to the left that makes this site easy to use--that's all I was pointing out.

CNKS: And that is clearly a good gesture, I never believe in telling someone the exact year of their tractor. Like you I think it far better telling him how to find out, thus giving him the joy and satisfaction of knowing how to do it. There is a wealth of knowledge in those columns on the left of this page, and I'm sure most newcommers appreciate finding where and looking for themselves.

Really sorry if I sounded rude, looking at my post, I guess I could have sounded that way. I was just asking if he was sure it was a Super. I don"t know much myself, and appreciate all the help I get on this board, and I do mean to help in the rare instances I can. Believe me, I realize I don"t know much compared to most of you guys, and would never be knowingly rude to anyone..... ..Stan

Your question was legitimate and I wasn't calling you rude. The guy asked for help, and instead of trying to help, he was just told to look to the left. I agree that it is better to find out things yourself, but if you ask something, it's only common courtesy to try to help.

So I'm supposed to do the work for him? I helped by telling him where he could find the serial number. All he had to do was click on the link.

Stan: You under estimate yourself, seems to me I remember a guy called Stan knowing a bit more about C-113 and C-123 engines tham most of us.

Sounds like they were in a hurry. I doubt they meant to be rude. You have to give people the benefit of the doubt on emails sometimes.

farmallman: I fail to see who was being rude. Both Stan and CNKS have been some of the most helpful people on this discussion forum. They did nothing more than tell Eddie the hard facts. Yes looking for an additional diget in that serial may be a good idea. Yes hydraulics will tell you maybe. Hydraulics are probably quite a sure thing as adding them to a 1940 A would require changing the engine as well as torque tube.

It could be a tractor made from two or more doner tractors, could be someone has decaled it wrong. My suggestion to Eddie is check the various casting codes,(engine, steering box, transmission, final drives, etc.) X is 52, Y is 53, V was not used. Go back years from that, casting codes are probably a year or so before tractor was built. If he finds are all X or close to it then look hard for another diget in that serial. Also if casting codes are close (two consectutive years) you are quite sure you have an original tractor and not one made from parts. All Super A have 6 diget serial numbers.

One other item Eddie, casting codes have day and month by number and year by letter. Looks like a screw cast in between each day, month and year.

Sure it"s a Super A? I think the serial number would make it a 1940 A, not Super A.

You need to become familiar with this site. Serial numbers are to your left, under Reseach and Info.
