Can the belt pully seal be changed without taking the unit off the tracto

Yep. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the belt pulley bearing shaft case to the main unit. Tap on the back side of the pulley face and the entire shaft with bearings, gear, etc. will come out as one unit. Then you will have to dissasemble the pieces off the shaft to get the case off so you can replace the seal and felt washer. Check your bearings while you have it out. I had one on one H that had a broken bearing housing!
