I was at the Farm Progress show near Des Moines Iowa on Wednesday and in the antique tractor row there was an M with an International 345 V-8 in it. Very nice job, had a chrome straight pipe exhaust coming out around each side of the hood.

What tractor, combine, truck did that 345 probably come from? Not that I want to do this, just curious.

I took the 345 out a 73 IH 3/4 ton pickup. The one we put in a 560 came from a 815 combine. IH offered the 304,345,392 in the 815 and915 combine As far as easy to find I looked for four months to find mine.

Could have been from a I-H Scout, as well. Got one in a '77 Scout II that we're in the process of restoring. Has 16,+++ showing on the clock, assume its 116,+++ judging from the wear in other places. Engine was stuck, cracked head let bad water & anti-freeze into one cylinder. (BTW, poor water, anti-freeze, aluminum piston, rings & block metal do not like each other!) Took the block to the machine shop to re-bore it. Machinest wouldn't touch the other 7 holes, said they had less than 0.002 taper, so he sleeved the bad one. Said it should run another 100,000 or so before it'll need rings again. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

IH used that engine for many, many years in farm trucks, pickups, school buses, etc., etc.

Scads of 'em layng around.

345 V8 was used in a lot of IH pickups.
We still have an old 1971 1210 brush truck that has one. Lots of torque, big thirst.

I think most likely it came out of an old dumptruck or flatbed truck. I used to work for a farmer who had a couple of old International dump trucks sitting out behind the machine shed, and they had big gasoline V8's in them, but me and a friend looked at them trying to find out what they were and couldn't find anything to I.D the size.
