I dont remember exactly cause it has been about 15 yrs since our 656 was apart. It seems like I remember that there is some sort of shock compensating disk mounted off the flywheel. It is spring loaded and works on a friction basis and wears out over time. When it starts slipping, as mine is doing now, the tractor wont pull. Split the tractor and replace it if thats it. Of course it could be hydraulic as well. I dont have my service manual handy either but I know that I&T makes a pretty comprehensive manual as well the IH reprint is available. They explain the system tests.

KW you better flow rate it first could be foot dump valve could be the relief valve could be charge pump. So need to find some one that can flow rate it first.

KW,

It will run anywhere beteween $2500 and $5K depending where you get it repaired and whether you break it down or not.

I've got a guy here that says he can sometimes rebuild them for just under $2K if it is brought in and is already taken out of the tractor.

Have your pressure check first. It may just be adjustment of the foot-n-inch valve or hydro lever.
