Far out 560 question

Got a 560 diesel that needs completely gone through this winter. Engine, injectors, fuel pump, about $1600.00 in parts, and probably $1000.00 in labor. My question is this. How much would it take to adapt say a chevy 350 v-8 small block to the 560 driveline. Only use this tractor for a loader tractor. It maybe runs an hour a day feeding hay, and the 350"s are a dime a dozen down here in the Ozarks. Everything on the tractor is run off the rear end, i.e. hydraulics, power steering, etc. just need to fit some kind of bell housing to the IHC clutch assembly or something, get the motor setr where it belongs, and then make the motor mounts to fit. Anybody with any experience or suggestions? Thanks, Harley

Yeah, SOUNDS like a good idea, but by the time you get a 350 stuffend in your tractor, you will find that it would have been a WHOLE LOT EASIER to just fix what you already have. And, like Allan said, you"ll find that a 350 wont have near the horsepower you need at the rpm range you need to work in. If you got the 350 in its power band, you"ll be hauling A$$ on your tractor!! Do whatever work on your tractor that you can do yourself and that"ll save on some labor cost. Shop for rebuilt or used parts where ever possible. Good luck.

I would sell the 560 and buy another tractor to replace it if you do not want to fix it. If you take the money that you would spend buying a 350 and then modifying it to fit your tractor, I am sure that you could afford a 450 or 560 gas tractor that would fit your needs for a chore tractor. Making that 350 fit is not going to be easy.

We placed an ad with YT for our farmall cub. We were contacted by Nigerians. They tried to scam us for $4000. We did not give them our tractor or any money until the check cleared. It was a fake. Be very careful. If I could find a phone number for YT, I would make them aware of the problem.

Hi Harley,

One time, I did kinda like what you are thinking about doing, only I did it on an irrigation well.

Took a 350 engine, souped it to the limit and strapped it on a 10" irrigation well.

Those 350s have a real short stroke and develop their horsepower via high revs; it pulled the pump alright, but I had to have 'er wrapped way up to find the power curve.

I think if you do this, you are going to really be disappointed. Big time.

My 2 cents,

Allan

Chevy/Ford engines are very common in KS and NE and other areas for irrigation wells. However they are probably detuned, different cam, etc than is used in car/truck engines, and they are operated at a rather low rpm. Most farmers used to use the MM irrigation engines, still some around, but apparantly parts are getting hard to fine. Place I used to work now uses GM 454's on natural gas.

for goodness sakes put a 263 IHC gasser out of a 403 combine in it and you will be happy. But you will need some parts from a junked gas or LP Gas tractor like air cleaner intake pipe motor mounts etc.

Don't destroy another one of these tractors. They aren't making them anymore, fix it right or sell it to someone who will.

Thanks guys, that"s just what kind of information I was looking for. First hand knowledge. I really appreciate it. The old 560 still runs, and I am still using it, and it looks great, so maybe I"ll try and sell it as a fixer upper and get a good Super M to put the loader on. That would be more than enough to just feed with. Again, thanks guys, Harley
