M axle housing

My uncle left the M out of gear she rolled down the hill back tire hit a tree and broke the axle housing through the crack you can see what is left of a bearing and gear inside do I have to take the top of transmission off and if so how hard is this task and how heavy is it any help would be welcome. She is in to good of shape to junk, anyone have any parts for sale around TN Thanks

I have a rear end housing with both axels attached. I am in western , Pa. $100 for everything. 724-282-8264

well,, I am in Upper Michigan, zip is 49912 ,, I can get between 100 and 200 as scrap Iron weight for whats left., make me a offer in that area and its yours. I think my lil ford 8n loader would load it on a trailer,, no wheels on it, does have the cast centers yet ,,narrow front end,I am very negotiable on price,, anything to trade?,,Jim

I've changed axles housings before. You don't have to take top off, But its easier. You can take PTO out and go in there to take bolt out of end of axle. It is heavy, have hoist or something to lift it. Remove outside bolts and it slides right out. Just reverse to put back in. But you need to lift bull gear to get axle started back in. That's the hardest part of the job to line it up. Good luck!!!
