It turns out that those that said even after rebuilding the existing carb and then buying a rebuilt carb. That it still must be the carb.
Well you were right.
Pulled a old geasey carb off a 560 and put it on the 460.
460 runs like a well tuned watch.
Now its back to the carb rebuilder to discuss the pain I have felt with having a bad- good carb.

Congratulations!

I've been following your 460 "adventure" and have to say that's I'm happy to hear you got it fixed.

I had problems like that on a carb on an A, turned out it just needed a little more cleaning (compressor did the trick).

No cograts yet. I still have to get a new one from the rebuilder. 560 carb was just a tester.

Called him this morning. The 560 carb test sort of painted him into a corner. He said. Hmmm thats funny never had that happen before. Gona take me a wile to get you a different one done. Have to find a core and get it soaking. Maybe get at it end of this week. ( AH you should have my old core sittin right there).
Grrrr. Any way will see. So far I got $170 for a rebuilt carb plus another $100 for parts I didnt need plus mechanic labor to figure out the rebuilt was bad.
Oh well, thats how it goes. get to pay to learn

Sorry if I jumped the gun but knowing must have set you mind at ease. It is funny that you ended up with two carbs with the same problem, not to mention one that you would expect to "just work".

Money, it seems to go to quickly. I've got a MF #32 mower that I'm getting ready for field work. It wasn't in bad condition, but once you start pulling things a part it just seems to make sense to replace the parts that are still serviceable, but not for that long. In the end I'll have pretty close to new (well, new it 1950s terms) mower that's still going to save me money over a brand new one.

I guess that's part of the fun playing with this old stuff. The satisfaction when your done pays dividends, that is seat time is worth it's weight in gold. ;-)

Kelly,

Now that you have it narrowed down to the carb, why don't you take your old one apart and see what the problem is ? And then let us know. It might be easier after you get done talking to the guys that rebuilt you 'new' carb.
