I think I have the dang thing running good - idles nice, speeds up nice - have plenty of spark and carburetor seems adjusted alright - but under any load (3rd or higher gear) the thing won't get up to speed (engine speed that it). Only thing left is the governor i can think of. How do you know if it's working and how can I fix it? Thanks guys

Governor Repair Request in reply to cordell huebsch, 08-29-2004 17:39:27
Would someone who has a scanner is familiar with Governor "Trouble Shooting" put up on this bulletin board a complete hand drawn diagram of the Farmall H Governor design with component parts and its interface with the carburator indicating the places where things go wrong and the remedies tagged to these trouble spots where metal wears.

Perhaps YT Company might do this as a service to parts buyers. One has to read through all the "Governor" postings to get a sense of the difficulty controlling the "Idle Speed" to remedy the "Hunting for the Right Speed" on the Farmall H and even then it is not an easy repair that is for sure. Lastly, must the governor shaft be hand machined as they are not available?

How does it run when it won't come up to speed under load ? It could be something like bad points or slow fuel flow.

It could be timing and or spark plug or point gap. I would check that first. If that doesnt help take the 5 screws or so out of the gov cover and look in for a severly streched out spring or where the spring hooks and other things look for oblong holes instead of round. But It sounds more like something else to me.
