Carb problems

Hello-

I've done a lot of reassembling today, and I wanted to see if I could start by BN.

Here's the problem, after a few hours it'll start and run at any speed for about 5 seconds, then stalls and won't start. Gas drips out the air intake as if it were choked, but it's not. The plugs are wet and look sort of oily. I checked the compression, and all cylinders were within 5 PSI of 90 PSI. The plugs are getting a spark.

I've taken the carb apart several times and I can't find anything that looks wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I took the mag cover off for about an hour, meanwhile I took the carb off, removed the float and needle, blew air in, made sure it looked clean, and reassembled it. Put the mag cover back on, and it ran fine.

Thanks for all your help. I have a feeling it was a float problem too.

Check the air cleaner & hose for restrictions.
Disconnect from the carb & run the engine to see if it makes a difference.

Definitely sounds like a float problem. 1)Make sure it is set properly. 2)Take the float off and rattle it to make sure there is not some gas that has leaked in through a hair line crack and is causing the float to sit way too low once you gas it up. (This happened to me once--a great source of frustration and consternation) 3)Examine your needle and seat to ensure that it is not so badly corroded that it is not shutting off properly and allowing far too much gas into the system.

My money is on a float problem.

Float too high or leaky float valve. Fix or repair and continue debug.

First, I took the carb off and sprayed starting fluid into the intake, and cranked it - nothing.

Then I checked for a spark...it looks like I'm back to my magneto :/

At least this time I have the starter installed.

Direct off the mag gets a 1/16" spark - I have to hold it so close to get a spark that I can barely keep it from touching.

Not to familar with a B carb, but I would think the float may be the problem. Ed
