I have recently completed restoring a 42 H Farmall. Although the engine was completely rebuilt, when I went to start it I found that there was no spark coming the magneto. Is there any way to check the magneto coil or does anyone know if there is a manual for troubleshooting magneto problems. I have all of the service manuals, but nowhere does it suggest troubleshooting problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Check your points. When they sit for awile they sometimes get a film on them. Rub them lightly with a piece of fine sandpaper.
Then re-gap to .013. The cover over the points has a gear in it, make sure when you put it back together that you don"t get the rotor out of time. It"s easy to get it on wrong, don"t ask how I know that ;)

Ok Its either the condenser or the coil most likely. I would try the condenser first ah what the heck put in new points and condenser. They are cheap. Take a coil wire that you know is good and put it in the coil cap and take the other end and put it about a 1/4" away from the screw on the side that your switch wire goes to and turn it over and see what you have Most likely if it ran before its the condenser not the coil.If you go to the blue ribbon service manual>Link
