We brought home our newest toy today, a 1948 Farmall Super A. We were able to start it, but fuel problems stopped us from driving it on the trailer. The hood suffered a fallen tree branch, but that seems to be the only apparent damage.

This is our first experience with an A, why the weighted hub on the R.H side and just a stamp steel hub on the L.H. side? Does this have something to do with the offset of the axels?

You can buy new hoods. do a google search on farmall hood. The heavy weight on the right side is to offset the tractor weight from it not being centered between the wheels. This is "cultivision" - that is - farmer can see what he"s cultivation without streaching his neck around the tractor hood to see what he"s driving over.

yep, you're right. Helps to keep the tractor from tipping over to the left. Yours also seems to have the wheels set out a few inches to stabilize it.
