I have a 54 Super A. When you depress the clutch pedal it does not disengage anything it stays in gear. The parts on the clutch look ok and the srings move when the pedal is deprssed. It looks like part of it is suppose to slide back on the drive shaft when engaged but it is rusty and I think that is where it may be stuck. Any suggetions?

I had the same problem this past weeekend with my H, had not been moved in 2 weeks and clutch wouldn't release. I started in gear then depressed clutch and started hitting the brakes, after about 4 hits it broke loose but would still stick if parked for alittle while. I used some penetrating oil with spray tube on it and lubed up the input shaft, then worked it till it stayed loose, then used a can of brakekleen and sprayed down clutch, shaft and pressure plate. Block the clutch pedal when not using, that should prevent it from sticking when not used, I now do that.

Thanks for the info I had just finished restoring it so it had been sitting for almost a year. I pulled it for about 30 feet and it broke free. Then drove it for the first time and everything seemed just fine.

Sounds like you haven't used that tractor for awhile. Probably some rust on the flywheel and/or pressure plate. I've had to start up tractors in 1st gear or reverse with the clutch depressed all the way down and "rap" the throttle up and down and this will sometimes release the clutch. Be sure you have plenty of room when you start it up and no one is nearby that could be in danger of getting run over. Also, make sure you know which way the tractor will move when it's started up and that the front and rear of the tractor is clear of barn walls, trees, trucks, people, etc.... If that doesn't work, you can also chain the tractor to a "dead man" (oak tree or something) and crank it over in gear with the clutch depressed all the way. This can be hard on the starter and you'll need a good hot battery. As a last resort, you can try filling up the bell housing with diesel fuel and soaking for a few hours. That will free up the clutch and it will evaporate once it's drained out.
