Since we have the fuel tank off doing some work on our working Cub, I thought I would do a good degreasing and a quick sanding and wirebrushing on the engine and everything else I can get to. We would like to do a decent paint job, but not like for a show tractor. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good primer that would go over existing paint and/or sanded iron? Also, what would be a decent paint for the finish coat? Like I said this is for a working tractor, not a show tractor, but I would still like to do a decent job.

There are no short cuts, so it depends on what you mean by decent. If the paint is sound, epoxy primer should be used. Otherwise go to bare metal and use epoxy, also. Sheet metal should have a sandable surfacer over the epoxy, if you want it smooth, followed by acrylic enamel, or better acrylic urethane. Hardeners REQUIRE a supplied air system.
