Hi, I recently bought a 460 Farmall and have some questions:
1) After the PTO is engaged, the lever gradually moves forward. Is this normal or is adjustment needed?
2) The T/A works fine. Should I use it for convenience or just when I really need it. Do they wear out quickly if used alot?
3) Where can I find an aftermarket wide front end?
4) Any other advise/tips would be appreciated.
Thanks! Wayne

If you have the later style clutch type PTO there is no notch for the little lever (bottom of the linkage that you press with your thumb) to snap into when you engage the PTO, just one that it drops into when you shut it off and engage the PTO brake. The early style planetary style PTOs have a notch for the little lever when the unit is engaged and disengaged and PTO brake applyed. Hope this makes sense. BTW, Swartz (sp?) makes a pretty good aftermarket wide front.

do you pull the pto lever all the way back until it locks? It should lock in the engaged position until you pull it again and push the button on the top to release it and lock it back in the off position. I just got mine recently and am still learning the little tricks to making it run but at least i got the manuals with it. I hardly use the ta so i dont know if it matters if on all the time. watch for pressure in the gas tank if it runs poorly on starting, like out of gas, took me a long time to figure out that the gas cap had to be loosened and retightened to relieve the pressure then runs great other wise starves out.

Keep in mind that when you pull the torque back it will free-wheel. Not a problem on the level or up hill. Big problem when pulling a load down a hill. The gas cap has a couple of vent holes in it that should allow air into the tank as gas is used or let air in when the gas in the tank expands during a hot day. You may be able to take thin wire and work it in or blow it out with an air hose. Best solution would be a new gas cap.
