I noticed when I am in second gear and going down hill (small hill) that my trans has a knock in it. It sounds like gears rattling and maybee hitting the side of trans case. It doesn't affect the performance at all. It doesn't do it in any other gear. Anyone had this problem before and if yes, can it hurt the trans?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Joe

Hey Joe,

I agree with the other guys.

If you've ever seen one of these things come a pouchin' out the bottom, you won't even start it again 'till ya take a peek in there.

What a hearbreaker that one is.

Previous posters are 100% correct about finding out what that is BEFORE it comes out to see you! If you get in there, and find one or more of the balls in the bearing are missing, DO NOT close it back up until you find out where it's hiding!

Be glad you have an H. Just about the easiest trans./rear end to work on in the world.
jal_SD is likely right that it"s a bearing, and he"s certainly right that it"ll be a lot easier to fix before it wrecks.

Better pull the top cover off & fix the bearing thats out. One of the balls that are rolling around in there will get caught between the bottom of the casting & bull gear and go out through the bottom of the casting - BT, DT. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
