I just purchased a 1942 Farmall H
I am having difficulty removing the bearing and seal housing for the hydraulic pump. It is on the front of the transmission at the bottom. I can not figure out how to remove this housing so I can replace the seal. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated or if you would direct me to another source. I purchased the IH Service Manual (Reprint ??) but it does not seem to cover this. Thanks in advance.

The threads on that coupler are standard so to remove it means to turn it counter clockwise after putting the tractor in gear and blocking the rear wheels. Some have used a flat bar that will fit into the slot but you can use what ever it takes to break it loose.

I replaced that seal on my Super H a few years back. The coupling end that looks like a large scewdriver or slot, can't remember wich way it is is treaded into the trans shaft. Turn the trans to see the way it turns then use a channel lock or bar and with the engine off and trans in gear turn the coupling the same way it rotates. Once you get it started it comes out easiy. Then the seal housing comes right off. I know it took me awile to figure it out at first I thought you had to take the trans apart as the coupler is larger than the seal. Hope this helps.
