Is there anyway to beef up the powersteering valve on a 560. I want to put a loader on it and it steers barely ok without the extra weight. I had the unloader valve out of the pump to look at it and didn"t see any easy way to shim it or beef it up for a little extra pressure. Can it be done or will the steering gears take the extra pressure? The pump is fine, I have plenty of pressure at the remote outlets. I just don"t want to give a thousand dollars for a loader that I can"t steer with it on the tractor.

I have another 560, I"ll swap out the front end first. I"ve been wanting to change the radiator anyway and this way I don"t have to remove it from the front end. Thanks for all the replies.

Needs some repair. We had a 4 row front cultivator on our 560 and you could steer it with one finger.

I had my 560 giving problems steering and nealry ran it in the ditch. It turned out to be the U-joints were dry. New ones was all it took and it steered easily then.

Chris, My brother had the same problem with a 706 which he bought with a wide front and big floatation tires. He switched to a narrow front with the standard 6.50 x 16 tires and the problem was solved. I have a 560 with the wide front and floatation tires and it steers real well but I don't have a loader on it.

Chris Brian is right with what he said. The other broblem could be that the steering valve might not be working. It is in the front end, the splined shaft that comes out thr back left of the bolster housing must move in and out a little to activate the valve so check that by rocking the steering shaft right and left a little to see if the shaft is moveing in and out a little. If the splines are tight in the u joint then the steering shaft needs to move clear to the steering wheel front to back a little so the valve can open and close.

Chris, the first thing I would say is there is a hydralic pump and a power steering pump both on a 560, so the pressure at the remotes has nothing to do with your power steering. The pumps are piggyback together and do both use the same resevior (the transmission) but most likely your ps pump is bad or the seals in the front end are bad. When the ps on a 560 is working properly there is no need for "beefing them up" they will steer just fine with a loader and a bale of hay on them. Brian

Brian: That is right, nothing about a proper working power steering on a 560 that can't handle just about any chore. I have forgotten just how the plumbing and pump or pumps operate, but will assure Chris, beefing up is not what is needed, it is straight repair.

My 560 had a 2000 loader and a 84" snow bucket most of the time. I've never seen it in 11,000 hours where you couldn't steer it with your index finger. It had very little difference in steering effort from 06, 56 and 66 series tractors.
