I haven't been on for a while,so I don't know if anyone has posted on this. John Gingerich retirement sale near Ottumwa,Iowa August 26. Super low hour IH tractors including a 1066 with 891 hours. Also a 1456 and a 1206 Standard and several others.I don't know these people and have no financial interest in this sale, I would like to watch these tractors sell though just to watch the show. Any bets on what that 1066 brings? Auctioneers' web addy is www.sullivanauctioneers.com There are over 50 photos of the machinery there.

I can assure you that the hours are correct on these tractor"s. I haven"t seen them in person but a couple friends have as they are only 30 or so miles away from me. This family has alot of outside money coming in, the machinery listed is only part of what they own to farm around 1,000 acres. I plan on attending the sale and will try to remember to post the results of what things brought.

Hi Chuck,

Boy, I dunno if I would buy into this claim.

I saw a 30 year old tractor for sale a few weeks back that claimed to have only 1300 hours on it. Tires were completely worn off and other parts of the tractor showed massive wear as well.

Why would anyone buy an expensive 1066 and then let it set and not use it? Doesn't make any sense.

I think this is akin to turning back the odometer on a car/truck. Just plain dishonest.

3500 hours I could buy into; 890 smells a little like rotten fish. Probably had the tach replaced at some point along the line.

I could buy into 10,890 or 20,890. 40 years is a long time. Big tractors get used. Small utilities may sit in the shed most of their lives, but not bigguns. They"re bought to work.....cost too much otherwise. So the question is, what wore out and what got fixed and how competent was the fixer. That"s what you want to know.

Gotta watch the "low hours" thing. Lots of times the hour meter has rolled several times. Just think for a minute what a farmer would do with a tractor for 40 years and put some hours to it. Any body that works their tractor, and those biggies get worked, could put that on in a year.

I look at running gear, seat, pedals, wear on controls, and things like that.

Mark:
Totally agree, except I think these tractors might be the real deal. There are times, for whatever reason, a low houred tractor comes up for auction, and the collector gets a chance at them. Everything this guy has is red, what's to say he didn't stumble across these in the 80s when things were cheap and put them away. It is a lot of money to me, but if the guy is as big as he looks, a few thousand dollars isn't much to support a hobby. What do some of the guys spend that are pullers, or antique collectors? They sold a 4020, i think a year and a half ago, is S. Iowa with 450 or so hours on it. Old man had it. It was genuine. They are out there, but you are completely right, buyer beware.
