Can anyone tell me what the slot is used for on the top end of the pto shield?

Hi Joe,

On the older equipment, the PTO shaft guard was generally stationary; it didn't rotate as these newer ones do and was just more or less a "hood" over the machines shaft.

The implement guard then hooked into that slot with a spring-loaded bolt arrangement to hold it aligned with the tractor and over the forward end of the machine's PTO shaft.

That's why most of those old H and M guards ended up standing in the corner of the shop. They were really a hassel.
