I have a 1976 International 140 that I have a cranking problem. Does this model have any type of gas filter? and if so where is it? And also is there any way to check a 12 volt coil, because when I do get it cranked it runs good for about an hour, starts sputtering and finally dies,30 or 40 minutes later it will crank up like nothing happened
Thanks

Marc: You have allready performed the test for checking the coil, as the symptoms you describe are clearly bad coil.

The gas is filtered in the glass bowl under the tank. That bowl is designed to catch dirt and water coming from the tank. You can see any build up of either, remove the bowl and clean. When you remove the glass bowl there is a screen the bowl holds in place, that is on the discharge side preventing dirt from going to carb. There may also be another screen on input at carb. In addition to this I quite often use an inline filter between glass bowl and carb, and keep bowl and screen operating, thus inline filter will last much longer.
